Out-of-network coverage varies based on the parameters of your insurance plan. You are encouraged to contact your HR department or insurance company to learn about the coverage benefits specific to your plan. Shore Therapy will provide a monthly superbill (detailed receipt) that you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance company through your out-of-network benefits.

  • EMDR therapy is a “bottom-up” brain and body-based treatment approach to support processing of “Big T” and “Little T” traumas, complex trauma, and CPTSD. Take a deeper dive for more information about what is EMDR therapy and how does EMDR work and learn answers to FAQs about EMDR therapy.

  • Not all therapists who offer EMDR are fully certified. Some complete only a basic training and begin practicing without ever pursuing any additional EMDR training.

As a certified EMDR therapist, I have:

    • Completed extensive advanced training through EMDRIA (the EMDR International Association)

    • Demonstrated competency through clinical hours and consultation with senior EMDR consultants

    • Committed to meeting ongoing continuing education requirements for as long as I maintain my status as an EMDR certified therapist.

    • Sought out specialized EMDR training including EMDR for fertility, prenatal, perinatal, and birth trauma; EMDR for OCD; EMDR for chronic pain; EMDR for autistic, ADHD, and other neurodivergent people; EMDR for structural dissociation and ego states; and specialized EMDR protocols including the Flash Technique, and EMDR 2.0.

This certification means you can trust that you’re working with someone who has deep expertise in EMDR and extensive EMDR therapy experience.

  • I understand why people ask this question; EMDR is sometimes misunderstood as a technique that can be added onto other therapy. In practice, EMDR is a comprehensive, trauma-focused approach that works best when the same therapist is holding both the reprocessing work and the broader therapeutic conversation.

Trauma weaves itself into many parts of life, and EMDR often creates subtle or unexpected shifts over time. The EMDR process can lead to changes in emotions, relationships, body responses, and day-to-day functioning. When those changes are processed with another therapist, I miss important information that helps me guide the work safely and effectively. Because of this, I generally don’t offer EMDR as a supplement to ongoing individual therapy with another provider.

My goal is always to provide care that is both effective and attuned to your nervous system; not rushed or fragmented. For this reason, I often suggest discussing with your therapist whether your current work has reached a point where specialized trauma treatment may be helpful.

In some cases, pausing therapy with another clinician to allow for focused trauma work with a trauma-trained therapist can support the healing needed, after which people may choose to return to their prior provider.

If you’re curious about whether EMDR is the right next step, I’m happy to talk through your options and help you make an informed decision.
